The Mangalore Public Servants Co- Operative Credit Society was established on 27.3.1918 by 14 Public Servants with a Share capital of Rs.90/-. The main objective is to encourage thrift and cooperation among the public servants working in various government Departments functioning at Mangalore.

 The first general body meeting of the society was held on 9.11.1918 in the office of the Deputy Commissioner South Kanara Mangalore. Mr. L.Vaibert; ICS; the then collector of South Kanara district was unanimously elected as president of the society and the 6 members have been elected as directors in the said AGM. The Name of the society was changed as South Kanara Government Servants Cooperative Society Limited The society has earned a net profit of Rs.12.75 during the first year of its business.

 In view of the amendment of Indian cooperative societies Act; the cooperative societies were asked to spread over the principles of cooperative financing. The jurisdiction of the society was extended to the entire undivided South Kanara District. The increase in the number of members has also increased the quantum of business which resulted in huge profit.

 The society has purchased own land at Dongarkery a prime locality in Mangalore city and constructed a one storied Building. The inaugural function was held on 1.9.1966 presided over by Sri. B.Vaikunta Baliga the then speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

 The society was converted to Salary Earners' urban cooperative bank by obtaining licence from Reserve Bank of India on 1.3.1966. The name of the society was Changed as ‘The South Kanara Government Officers Co Operative Bank Limited’.

 The Bank provides Long term and Short term loans, Mortgage loans, Home loans; Gold loans and Express loans to A class Members. For availing of the loan the Members have to furnish one Surety and Undertaking letter from their Pay Drawing and Disbursing Officers binding themselves to recover the monthly loan installments from the salary of the employee and remit the same to the bank. The Gold loans at attractive rates are advanced to the general public. RTGS and NEFT facilities are also available for customers. Bank receives Fixed Deposits at attractive rates. Deposits up to Rs.500000/- are covered by DICGC Insurance. Safe Deposit Lockers are available. Death relief fund and Scholarship fund have been created for the benefit of members.

 The BANK has completed 100 successful years of operation in the field of banking and has a renowned history of making profit and paying dividends continuously to its members.

 The Bank has a dedicated Employee force and an enlightened Board of Directors. The Bank attained its premier position in Karnataka State among the Salary Earners Cooperative Bank with the co operation from its members and customers. The bank is known for its cordial and personalized customer service. At the same time striving to assimilate and implement newer method to work Organisation and management with firm commitment to its objectives.
